This policy explains what information Top Hospice Care (“we,” “us”) collects when you use tophospicecare.com, how we use it and the choices you have. We are an information website, not a hospice provider, and we do not collect medical records.
Information we collect
When you browse the site
Like most websites, we and our service providers automatically collect technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, the page that referred you, and approximate location (city or region). We collect this with cookies and similar tools, including Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics.
When you contact us
If you email us or use a form, we collect what you send, such as your name, email address and message.
When a hospice claims a listing or buys a plan
We collect the account holder’s name, work email, job title, phone number, and business details such as the hospice’s Medicare ID (CCN) and state license number. Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not see or store full card numbers. Stripe’s handling of payment information is described in the Stripe Privacy Policy.
Public business information
Hospice profiles are built from public data published by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and other official sources. This is information about businesses, not about patients.
What we do not collect
- We do not ask for, and you should not send us, medical information about yourself or a loved one.
- We are not a “covered entity” under HIPAA, because we do not provide health care or process health insurance claims.
- We do not take patient referrals and we never pass family contact details to hospices.
How we use information
- To run, secure and improve the website
- To answer questions and correction requests
- To verify hospice listings and the people who claim them
- To process payments and manage subscriptions
- To send service messages, such as receipts and verification notices
- To understand how the site is used, in aggregate
- To comply with law and protect our rights and our users
How we share information
We do not sell personal information. We share it only:
- With service providers who help us run the site, such as our web host, email provider, Stripe and Google, under contracts that limit their use of it
- When the law requires it, or to protect the safety, rights or property of our users, the public or us
- In a business transfer, such as a merger or sale of the website, subject to this policy
Information a hospice publishes on its own profile, such as its phone number, description and photos, is public by design.
Cookies and your choices
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. To opt out of Google Analytics, you can use the Google Analytics opt-out add-on. We honor the Global Privacy Control signal as a request to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information. Our site does not change its behavior in response to “Do Not Track” signals, because there is no common standard for them.
Your California privacy rights
If you live in California, you may have the right, under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, to:
- Know what personal information we collect, use and disclose
- Get a copy of your personal information
- Correct inaccurate personal information
- Delete your personal information, with some exceptions
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell it)
- Not be treated differently for using these rights
To make a request, email listings@tophospicecare.com with the subject “Privacy request.” We will confirm your identity before acting and respond within the time the law requires. You may use an authorized agent. Residents of other states with similar laws may make the same requests.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above. Account and billing records are kept for as long as the account is active and afterward as required for tax, accounting and legal purposes. Messages are deleted when no longer needed.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls and a payment processor that meets card industry standards. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
This website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Links to other websites
Our pages link to other sites, including hospice websites, Medicare.gov and government agencies. Their privacy practices are their own, and we are not responsible for them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will change the “Last updated” date above, and for material changes we will post a notice on the site.
